A LOOK INTO TEMMY’S YOUTH LEADERSHIP JOURNEY

At Fight for Peace, we’re proud to see how our young members grow through the opportunities we offer, and Temmy’s journey is a shining example of that progression. Since joining two years ago, Temmy has developed from a quietly confident newcomer into an inspiring young leader.

Through boxing and Fighting Fit sessions to her involvement in personal development group, Lutadoras, and youth leadership groups Youth Power, and Future Light, she has built strength, leadership, and a clear sense of purpose.

Today, Temmy plays a key role in our community, using her creativity to inspire others through her tailored spoken word and poetry workshops.

Over the past year, Temmy’s growth has accelerated. She has channelled her passion into empowering her peers through a series of powerful workshops designed to help young people express themselves beyond the gym. Her creative journey began earlier this year when she attended workshops led by local partner, YouPress, as well as former Fight for Peace team member and rapper Richard Roach (Roachee). Inspired by that experience, Temmy went on to perform an original poem at Fight for Peace’s Arts Council funded Young Creatives exhibition, I Love My Newham, ‘Still’.

Her poem, a heartfelt reflection on the rich and diverse community of Newham, captivated the audience, leaving many in awe and eager to see what would come next for Temmy’s creative journey.

Since that night in April, Temmy has continued to grow as both an artist and a leader. With support from Fight for Peace’s Creative Lead, Kayla Troy, she has planned and delivered several spoken word workshops for our members – including our Man Talk and Lutadoras personal development groups.

Now, Temmy is expanding her reach beyond our Academy walls, and begins this expansion through her workshop with the Newham Youth Partnership’s Future Light youth leadership group at Stratford Youth Zone.

Next on her journey, Temmy will deliver a workshop at our upcoming I Love My Newham, ‘Still event at Beckton Globe on Friday, 14th November, marking another exciting step in her creative and leadership journey.

This full-circle moment is a testament to how far Temmy has come. Just a few months ago, she was attending workshops as a participant, now, she’s leading them – inspiring others to find and share their own voices.

“Since Temmy joined Fight for Peace, the change has been remarkable,” said Creative Lead, Kayla Troy. “When I first started working with her, she was quite shy and often kept to herself. But over time, through her dedication, creativity, and willingness to step outside her comfort zone, she’s become someone who not only leads, but uplifts others.”

“Not only is it a genuine pleasure to work alongside Temmy, but I learn a lot from her and her approach too, like the way she shows up with honesty, courage, and creativity blows my mind every time. Temmy is definitely one to watch for her individual talent, but to see her inspiring others through her workshops is incredibly powerful,” she continued.

Temmy’s journey is a reminder of how creativity and leadership go hand in hand. What began as a personal exploration through poetry has evolved into a platform for empowerment, one that encourages other young people to express themselves, build confidence, and take pride in their voice and experience.

At Fight for Peace, we believe that true leadership is about growth, collaboration, and giving back, and Temmy continues to embody all of these qualities. Her willingness to learn, lead, and lift others up shows just how much can happen when young people are given the space and support to thrive.

As she continues to develop her craft and inspire others through her workshops, performances, and community projects, Temmy’s story stands as a testament to the impact of youth leadership in action, and to the power of creativity as a force for change.

Temmy’s next workshop takes place on Friday 14th November at the Beckton Globe as part of Newham’s Festival of Stories – open to all members of the public.
