Over recent months, Fight for Peace has been developing a youth leadership training package in partnership with Sport England. The package aims to strengthen youth leadership approaches across the sports sector by supporting organisations to develop their work in helping young people to lead themselves, their organisations, and wider society.
Building on Fight for Peace’s long tradition of codifying its methodology in order to maximise impact, this training packages up insight and experience from 25 years of delivering youth leadership programmes in diverse settings around the world.

“Our aim was to create a training package that represents the approach that Fight for Peace, and our sister organisation Luta pela Paz, have taken in the youth leadership space over two decades. That meant delving into the knowledge we have built, the approaches we have developed, and the lessons we’ve learned,” explained James Morgan, who led the project to create the training package.”
“In addition to this, however, we were determined that the package we created reflected the work and knowledge of our Fight for Peace Alliance partners, as well as the extensive and excellent work being done in youth leadership, voice and participation in the wider youth and sports sectors.”
This focus led to an extensive course-build phase which brought together youth leaders and specialist staff from Fight for Peace and Luta pela Paz, representatives of Fight for Peace Alliance member organisations, and a broad selection of best practice from UK sport sector organisations (chief among them Sport England System Partners), and international bodies like UNICEF and Save the Children.
What resulted was a refreshed Youth Leadership Methodology (grounding the work that Fight for Peace delivers at its Academy in east London and including a new theory of change), a curriculum of modules for a two day in person training course, full session plans covering this curriculum, a detailed participants’ handbook to accompany the course and a consultancy offer for those wishing to deepen their knowledge in specific areas of youth leadership or wishing to work with Fight for Peace to apply a particular approach to their work.

“By sharing our practice, and that of our partners and the wider sector, we want to give those participating in our course a framework for designing youth leadership initiatives and programmes that best fit their organisations and communities,”said James. “We are very excited about what comes next in terms of working with these organisations and helping create the conditions for young leaders to build leadership skills and experience, while impacting inequalities across the country in line with Sport England’s strategic focus,” said James.
The roll out of this brand new two day Fight for Peace Youth Leadership Training Course will commence over the next year. For those wishing to participate or to find out more, please contact info@fightforpeace.net and look out for updates on our social media channels.
