Breaking down territorial barriers and uniting young people in Maré.

Complexo da Maré has suffered decades of violent confrontations between openly armed rival drug factions, the Police and the Army. As a result, freedom of movement between favelas is challenging and at times impossible.

Although a minority of young people are directly involved in this problem, all young people growing up in the community are directly affected. Maré United builds a culture of understanding and peace by uniting young people across territorial divides. The project delivers Fight for Peace’s Five Pillars model at three locations and promotes cross-community sporting events, joint training sessions as well as other exchanges between young people from different areas of the community.
