SPORT 4 RIO: Promoting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Objectives
17/02/2016 – Fight for Peace and three other Laureus supported organisations from Rio de Janeiro have come together to organise a project focused on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Objectives. The project, named Sport 4 Rio, began with an introductory meeting on 14th February at the Museu do Amanhã in the centre of Rio de Janeiro.
Participating organisations Fight for Peace, Bola pra Frente, Instituto Reação and Gol de Letra are united by links to sport and a commitment to two Sustainable Development Objectives – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and Partnerships for the Goals.
Each organisation will deliver a workshop on a theme related to the Objectives, namely Quality Education (Bola pra Frente), Gender Equality (Fight for Peace), Responsible Consumption and Production (Instituto Reação) and Reaction to and Reduction of Inequality (Gol de Letra).
The opening workshop will be delivered by Bola pra Frente on 14th March with Fight for Peace leading the second installment on 30th March. The third and fourth workshops will be held on the 18th of April and 16th May and will be delivered by Gol de Letra and Instituto Reação respectively.
The Fight for Peace workshop is due to be delivered by the Gender and Sexuality team and will include a debate aimed at challenging prevailing social attitudes and demystifying the question of gender in the professional and sporting worlds. Each organisation will be represented by a committee of ten young people aged between 12 and 14 years old, composed of five girls and five boys.
