Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This year, Fight for Peace completed 15 years of activity. When we began with a small project in the Nova Holanda community in Complexo da Maré back in 2000, I couldn’t imagine how much our organisation would grow.

Looking back, I see how far we have come since then, not only in offering support for young people in areas affected by high levels of crime and violence, but also in developing to offer mentoring and training support to like minded organisations to do the same all over the world.

Our staff and young people have achieved a great deal this year also, and have much to celebrate. As well as consolidating our global partnerships in 2015 and completing the majority of our London Academy refurbishment, we have expanded our work with new offices in Rio de Janeiro and Jamaica, and have received important recognition including a Beyond Sport Award for conflict resolution and a Leaders of Brazil Award from Grupo Doria, presented in London and São Paulo respectively.

2016 promises to bring yet more exciting times. In a year in which the Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro, we will continue to work closely with our athletes, providing motivation and helping them gain the self-confidence and strength to recognise opportunities and achieve more. We will also be expanding our presence by opening new offices in South Africa, and we look forward to our global partnership with Reebok really taking shape as our joint communications strategy will be launched and built on throughout the year. New external evaluations of our work will be released in the new year, but a preview of these results already demonstrates very tangible indicators for successfully directly supporting three thousand young people in Academies in Rio de Janeiro and London and reaching more than 250 thousand young people through our partner organisations around the world.

With this in mind, I thank you for your support. Fight for peace is defined by the young people we serve, but our consolidation and growth depends on our partners and supporters, so thank you all.

Happy Christmas and an excellent 2016!
