Global Network partners Empire Fighting Chance visit the London Academy

17/02/2016 – Empire Fighting Chance, a Fight for Peace Global Network partner, this week paid a visit to the London Academy and held meetings on wide range of topics including employability, youth leadership, personal development and monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL).

The visit was a chance for Empire’s Co-Founder Martin Bisp and Coaches Harvey Hemsley and Justin Williams to exchange experiences with and draw on the skills and knowledge of Fight for Peace staff from across the Five Pillars, with the aim of further developing the excellent programmes the Bristol based organisation offers to young people.

Empire Fighting Chance functions alongside the highly regarded Empire Amateur Boxing Club in the St. Pauls area of Bristol. While the charity has formerly existed since 2013, its founders have been engaging with young people through boxing since the mid-2000s. Empire offers boxing, mentoring and education programmes to young people and runs a highly successful schools programme which provides specialist alternative provision for students at risk of permanent exclusion as well as sport and mentoring programmes for young people with low self-esteem and confidence issues.

The Fight for Peace Global Network, consisting of 150 organisations across 25 countries, is a unified voice for alternative approaches to youth crime and violence and Fight for Peace provides ongoing support to network partners to ensure that they are able to increase their effectiveness and impact.

Alex Brown, Fight for Peace UK Network Consultant, was delighted with the outcomes of the latest visit:

“Empire Fighting Chance is our oldest Alumni partner in the UK and the impact that their work with young people is having is outstanding. Through the UK Network, Fight for Peace is helping create a productive and dynamic community of effective organisations that supports young people to make positive changes to their lives. Spending the day at the London Academy allowed Martin and his team to engage with a number of our staff from different areas and draw on their knowledge and expertise. We’re confident that this will add value to Empire as they continue their inspiring work and this exchange and growth is precisely what we are trying to achieve”, said Alex.
