BRAZIL AND SOUTH AFRICA SIDE BY SIDE

12/08/2018 – In the final week of June, we had the immense pleasure of welcoming to our Rio Academy the South African violence prevention organisation Fight with Insight, a member of the Fight for Peace Alliance. The visit consisted of a week long exchange of knowledge and experiences which culminated in our International Boxing Tournament, held in the community of Maré where Fight for Peace is located.

The Fight for Peace Alliance is a community of organisations from 25 countries around the world who are all trained in Fight for Peace’s methodology and who work together for peace.

Below are detailed some of the activities staged as part of the exchange:

Our Youth Council participated in the exchange and presented on how Fight for Peace’s Youth Leadership Pillar works, answering questions from our visitors and beginning work on the creation of Fight with Insight’s first youth council. Meanwhile, our athletes and students were able to ask questions to their South African counterparts about their experiences at Fight with Insight and in life.

“It is always great to have this type of exchange with young people from overseas because learning about different cultures and different perspectives on life allows us to grow as people. And it was even better to hear that our visitors thought that our community was better than Copacabana” said Joyce Rocha, Senior Youth Councillor at Fight for Peace in Rio, laughing at one of the observations the Fight with Insight members made.
