Africa Youth for Peace and Development are an organisation that use a range of sports combined with mentoring to support young people in Central Freetown. Based at the National Stadium they offer football, handball, yoga, karate and boxing – each sport delivered by a coach with the support of a youth mentor.

AYPAD was started by Salis Bangura in the aftermath of the Civil War and has now expanded across much of West Africa and is even developing chapters across the Eastern and Southern parts of the continent.

Salis, and his Freetown coordinator, Winston Thomas, will be working with Fight for Peace to expand existing activities at the National Stadium, whilst ensuring that young people can access youth support services at a deeper level. AYPAD is also planning to deliver a range of activities at a new location in West Freetown in partnership with a local orphanage and school. There they plan to offer karate and youth support services to young people to aid in their educational and personal development.
